Jordan Poole had a forgettable run in the 2023 NBA playoffs. He completely disappeared in the Western Conference Finals vs. the Los Angeles Lakers.
Following Poole’s disappointing performance, many are doubting if the Warriors giving him a massive contract extension killed his hunger for getting better. During his exit interview, Poole revealed that’s not the case, and he always plays with a chip on his shoulder.
“Personally, I always play with the edge, always a chip on my shoulder to find ways to get better,” Poole said. “Not especially proving people wrong, but you know, just knowing what I’m capable of. Trying to reach that night in and night out.”

Jordan Poole signed a 4-year $128 million contract with the Warriors in the past summer. During the regular season, Poole went on to average 20.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, and 4.5 APG. He shot 43.0% from the field and 33.6% from beyond the three-point line. But during the playoffs, his numbers dropped.
He averaged just 10.3 PPG, 2.2 RPG, and 3.5 APG while shooting an abysmal 34.1% from the field and 25.4% from downtown. Regardless of whether he plays with a chip on his shoulder or not, Poole needs to improve his performance in the postseason if he stays with the team.
Jordan Poole Explains Why He Struggled In The Playoffs
Jordan Poole’s numbers dropped across the board in the playoffs. Had Poole kept up his performance from the regular season, the Warriors may have defeated the Lakers in the second round.
JP explained the reason behind such a steep decline in his numbers in his exit interview.
“Probably just a little bit of a role change,” Poole said. “Last year, I could come in, score, be aggressive with the team that we had around being more of a facilitator. Trying to get guys off the ball. Get them easy shots. Throughout the course of the playoffs, we had two really good defensive teams that we played. Just trying to find ways to facilitate, get inside.”
Hopefully, Poole can learn from his mistakes and make a strong comeback next season. After all, the Warriors have invested in him to be the future of the team.
