After Jeff Teague, Karl-Anthony Towns shared his side of the story about the infamous practice incident involving him and Jimmy Butler.
Speaking to Paul George on the latest episode of his podcast, “I can’t hold grudges. I ain’t got no time for that s**t,” the Wolves star said. He also shed light on their current relationship.
“I can say from then on, we had our differences but we seen each other at All-Stars and we’ve talked,” he said. “I think we are at a cool spot.”
Towns also revealed how the practice went down. “We played and, uh, I was ballin, he was passing a lot,” he said. “He got one free throw and then I know we had a moment where we were arguing with each other. He said some s**t. I said some s**t back. I wasn’t going for that.”
He further added that he pulled Butler aside the following day during the team meeting. “Told him what I’m about. I’m about winning and I’m not here for all that so if we’re about winning then I don’t really care about anything else that happened the day before.”
“I’ll let all that s**t slide, all the rumors and s**t in the summer, I don’t really care as long as I can come to work and we can win games. That’s all I care about,” Towns said.

The season with the Wolves had its ramifications. Butler was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers just weeks into the 2018-19 season. From there, he made his move to Miami and is now spearheading their journey to the ECF for the second time in three seasons.
It’s interesting to note that while Teague had earlier mentioned that Towns’ and Butler’s relationship had soured, the former said the duo is in a better place.
Karl-Anthony Towns Reflects On The Infamous Practice Session
It wasn’t the greatest space to be for Towns for dwelling on the aftermath of the explosive practice session that saw him and Butler go at it.
“Things happened the way they happened. It is what it is,” per Sports Illustrated. “Could I have said more when I was younger at that point? I could, but I really cared about the organization. I cared about that shield, that logo we all wear in the NBA.”
“I just was only about being professional. Could I have said something? Could I have said my truth and probably saved me a lot of stigmas and narratives and stuff, people playing on me? For sure. But I took the approach of a wise man. A wise man says nothing at all.”
There was no doubt that Towns, who joined the NBA in 2015 was younger than Butler, who was already in his seventh year in the league after he was drafted with the 30th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls.
But it’s good to see both the stars remain cordial despite Butler’s murky exit from Minnesota. Things may not certainly be all sunshine and rainbows, but thankfully, they’re not at war with each other either.
