Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu will face off in an eagerly awaited first-ever NBA vs. WNBA three-point contest during All-Star weekend in Indianapolis. Kevin Durant was recently once again asked to make his pick for the winner, and he has decided to finally go with Curry.
“I’m going Steph. I said Steph first, then Steph kind of like disrespected me, calling me an instigator so I went Sabrina,” Durant said. “But I’ll go back to Steph. You know how I like to switch.”

Durant had hilariously switched teams after Curry called him an instigator. When the Golden State Warriors superstar was asked to guess who his former teammate would have picked, Curry said an instigator like Durant would have gone for Ionescu, but he had actually picked him.
Durant couldn’t believe that Curry said that and decided to switch his pick. The 14-time All-Star is now going back to his initial selection, and if I had to make a pick, I would go with Curry, too.
Sabrina is an incredible shooter, who broke the NBA and WNBA record for most points in a three-point shooting contest by earning 37 points last year. Last season, the 26-year-old also led the WNBA in threes made with 128 and shot an impressive 44.8% from beyond the arc. She is a truly special talent, but Curry is simply the greatest shooter we have ever seen.
The 35-year-old is the NBA’s all-time leader in threes made with 3,631 and has shot 42.7% from three in his career. I wouldn’t bet against Curry no matter who he is facing, be it Ray Allen, Reggie Miller, or Klay Thompson.
What also spells trouble for Ionescu is that Curry is red-hot from beyond the arc right now. He has gone 27-48 (56.2%) from three in his last three games, and I would expect him to put on an incredible performance when these two face off on Feb. 17.
Kyrie Irving Has Picked Sabrina Ionescu To Beat Stephen Curry
While Durant and many others have gone with Curry, Kyrie Irving is backing the New York Liberty star to come out on top. Irving picked Ionescu over Curry in their three-point contest.
“Two incredible shooters, incredible players really. I don’t want to disrespect their craft and how much hard work they put in. I’m pulling for Sabrina. No disrespect to you, Steph.”
“I love you big bro, but same time, she got the record, man. She’s coming to defend her title. You’re coming to competitive table to see if you can win, man. It’s gonna be interesting.”
Irving is someone who loves to go against the grain, so I am not too surprised that he went with Ionescu here. Now, if she ends up matching her record-breaking 37-point performance, she will win, but I don’t think that is going to happen.
It’s almost impossible for anyone to have a night like that, and pulling it off twice is just unthinkable. I expect Ionescu to do well, just not that well. It should be an interesting matchup, as Irving says.
Another intriguing aspect of this contest is that these two won’t be shooting from the same distance or with the same kind of ball. It was announced that Ionescu would shoot from the WNBA three-point line with WNBA balls while Curry would shoot from the NBA three-point line with NBA balls.
