Kevin Garnett has made the case for Giannis Antetokounmpo as the best player in the NBA, even over Nikola Jokic, who is having a terrific campaign with his always-dangerous Denver Nuggets.

The reigning back-to-back NBA MVP is once again posting an incredible season, playing at a high level, and looking like a serious candidate to win the longed-for award this campaign. However, more players are having great seasons too, and Kevin Garnett thinks Jokic, as of right now, isn’t the best player in the league.

Other figures like Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, and more are also having good campaigns and KG is well aware of that. While praising the Joker, the 2008 NBA champions stated that the center isn’t the best NBA player right now.

Kevin Garnett Picks Giannis Antetokounmpo As The Best Player In The NBA Right Now

During a recent edition of KG Certified, Garnett discussed the Denver Nuggets’ chances to make it through the Western Conference. The former big man was asked about Jokic being the best player in the league by Paul Pierce, naming Jokic one of the best, but not the best of all (3:46 mark).

“He’s one of the best players in the league. I can’t say that [he’s the best player in the league] because Joker doesn’t implement the defense–I’m just saying he doesn’t impact the defensive end like a Giannis. We are tending to think of the MVP as the best scorer…”

Garnett explained that for him, it was important that a player can do well on both ends of the ball, something that Jokic doesn’t do.

“If I’m saying the best player, I cannot say that he’s the best player. He’s one of them. He does not impact the defensive side of the ball like Giannis does.”

This is a big debate around the league, but it seems like most of the fans agree that Jokic is, at least, the MVP of the season. Besides his passing abilities, and the way he impacts the game on the offense, he’s shown that he’s a good leader. Perhaps a deep playoff run where he shows what he’s really capable of can change Garnett’s and the rest of the league’s minds.
