Lifelong Sacramento Kings fans proudly declared last year July that their team would win 40 games this season, and 251 days later, the Kings stunned the NBA world by doing just that.

Per NBC Sports, Sean Chew, one of the franchise’s staunch supporters bellowed outside the venue, “We’re getting 40 wins” and his words went viral after the Kings pipped the Phoenix Suns 128-119 to hit that target.

The proclamation went from being a joke, to now people viewing Sacramento as a legitimate title contender after what has been a scintillating season so far. The Kings have been lighting up that beam with every win and made history this time around by hitting the 40-win mark — their first in 16 years.

The Sacramento Kings Are One Of The More Impressive Teams This Season

Not many would have pegged the Kings to be where they are right now. At the time of writing, they’re 40-26 and placed second in the West. The Memphis Grizzlies have the same record but are third.

The Kings have been led admirably by De’Aaron Fox (25.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists), Domantas Sabonis (19.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 7.0 assists). The likes of Harrison Barnes, Kevin Huerter, and Keegan Murray have been vital in the team’s wins.

The side has also seen coach Mike Brown handle business efficiently. His coaching received LeBron James’ vote as the latter backed him to win ‘Coach Of The Year’. This was seconded by Nick Young who also believed that Brown should win the award if Sacramento ends its regular season as the second seed in the West.

Sacramento has been one of the teams to beat as they have been rattling win after win. Their offense has proved to be a headache for opponents and Fox has been simply unstoppable in the clutch. It remains to be seen if this team can carry its pristine form to the playoffs.
