The Warriors vs. Kings matchup is already among the most highly anticipated first-round series of the year. But a recent rant by Kings-by-play announcer Kyle Draper has seemingly added more fuel to the fire ahead of tonight’s opening game.

The clip was part of a chat on ESPN Radio, where Draper went off on the Dubs and their ‘new money’ fans.

“Warriors fans are new money. They are first-generation wealth fellas. They are not e legacy franchise. They want to be the Lakers, they want to be the Celtics, they wanna try to get that respect. So how do they get that respect? They try to put down the Sacramento Kings when years ago, they were the Kings. So let’s not get it twisted.”

Funnily enough, this isn’t the first time this season that Draper has trash-talked the defending champs. Another exchange came just earlier this month…

“It was only a decade ago that the Warriors were in the same position. Let’s not get it twisted. Let’s not act like the Warriors are a blue-blood franchise that’s been winning championships. for five decades. You guys are ‘Johnny-come-lately’s’ if you ask me…”

After decades of irrelevancy, the Kings are finally in a place where they can compete for a title and they became the darlings of the league after breaking their infamously long playoff drought. But now, it’s time for the team to deliver and things will only get harder from here.

First up, Sac will have to do battle against the defending champions and they probably aren’t going to take it easy on them. In fact, after hearing the things Draper and others have been saying, the Dubs will be playing to prove all the doubters wrong.

Can The Kings Beat The Warriors In Round One?

This series will be a clash of youth against experience and many experts are split on who will come out on top. On the one hand, the Kings pose a real threat to win the West with a historically great offense and a rocking fanbase cheering them on. On the other hand, they’ve never been here before, and there are questions about if their defense will keep up with a healthy Warriors team.

We will find out soon enough how it all ends up, but the Kings still have a lot to prove before anyone takes them too seriously as a contending team.
