Dwyane Wade was one of many celebrities in attendance to watch Game 1 of the Miami Heat vs. New York Knicks series. He watched the Heat handle their business and get an important road win.

Fans of the Knicks were in a foul mood after the game, likely hoping for their franchise to get the victory. And as Dwyane Wade was leaving Madison Square Garden, he was at the receiving end of some truly disgusting comments from Knicks fans. One went as far as to shout, “Why’d you mutilate your son?”

The comments are regarding Dwyane’s daughter Zaya, who came out as trans a few years ago and has spoken often about her journey. Both Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union, have been extremely supportive of Zaya, which has drawn the ire of a lot of people that are anti-trans.

Whatever anyone believes in, there is no excuse to attack a man’s family as he is passing by. A lot of people in today’s era feel confident saying things they never would right to someone’s face, thanks to the anonymity of social media. This further emboldens them to say things of that nature out loud as well, which isn’t a good thing at all.

Dwyane Wade Has Been Firm In His Support For His Daughter

Sports is not a space that has generally been kind to people from the LGBTQ+ community, homophobia is rampant within most major sports. But times are changing, with Charles Barkley’s declaration of support being a great example of it. And Dwyane Wade has been another ally, he has been incredibly supportive of his child, which he has made clear in public appearances.

“She’s the strong one in this family. She’s a hero,” Wade said, as per People. “It’s our family’s job to make sure that we listen to her. We listen to the doctors. We ask questions and we formulate our ideas of how Zaya should be and should be raised in this world and we don’t allow others to do that for us.”

This is a sensitive topic and one that people feel incredibly strongly about. However, the bottom line is that people should be allowed to be themselves and express themselves as long as it doesn’t harm anyone else. Dwyane Wade is a supportive and strong father, and he doesn’t deserve to be at the end of vicious heckling from random people.
