Kyrie Irving’s simple response to Tristan Thompson fueled speculations that the former is keen to reunite with LeBron James.
The point guard sent shockwaves after requesting a trade from the Brooklyn Nets, and the Los Angeles Lakers are one of the teams interested in his services. The news of him wanting out was reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, saying that he intended to be moved before the trade deadline or he would leave in free agency in July.
Thompson revealed details about his text to Irving where he asked the 30-year-old to play alongside James in LA, and in reply, the latter replied with a simple heart emoji.
βI texted Kyrie Irving to bring the band back together in LA β¦ he gave me a heart emoji.β – @RealTristan13

Thompson is currently a sports analyst for ESPN and, speaking on SportsCenter, spoke about his message and a potential reunion with James.
The former Cavaliers star played alongside Irving and James, and the trio won the Championship together in 2016.
"You texted Kyrie about a Cavs reunion. Did he text back?"
Tristan Thompson: "Yeah, he put a heart emoji, so I know he read it.β

“He [Irving] put a heart emoji, so I know he read it. We all said it before. Obviously, whatever happened in Cleveland happened. But the band broke up a couple of years too early. Let’s get it back together. This is what we need. One thing about LeBron, he brings the best out of Kyrie, and Kyrie brings the best out of LeBron. β¦ They need each other and itβs a perfect marriage.β
It does appear that Irving is keen to play alongside James again, and should a deal come to fruition, the Lakers will be one of the more tantalizing sides to watch out for, with Davis combining with the duo to form a super team.
Former Los Angeles Lakers Legend Magic Johnson Is Keen To See Kyrie Irving In The Purple And Gold
Trust Kyrie Irving to pull off a Friday blockbuster with his announcement. While there were mixed opinions to the news of his eventual exit from Brooklyn, and the possibility of playing for the Lakers, Magic Johnson, for one, was eager to see him suit up for LA.
Johnson kept his message clear. He took to Twitter, saying he would love to see the guard in LA.
Personally, Iβd love to see Kyrie in the purple and gold.

While the Lakers will surely benefit from Irving in their ranks, his off-court controversies will be one of the major risks that come along with the deal.
His suspension earlier this year and his stance against the COVID-19 vaccination last year saw him miss a sizeable chunk of games, and the Lakers’ position currently doesn’t help them should there be more furor from Irving. Only time will tell if he does indeed reunite with James in LA.
