Kyrie Irving asking for a trade from the Brooklyn Nets garnered all the buzz on Friday, and soon after his request, he seemingly threw shade at the franchise on social media.

The 30-year-old stunned the NBA world, especially when it was expected that he would finish his season in Brooklyn. While news of his contract extension did the rounds earlier last month, not many thought Irving would ask out.

Soon after his request, he took to Twitter to post a GIF of Bob Marley singing ‘Don’t Let Them Fool Ya’ implying that there was more to his decision.

It wasn’t a great start for the Nets and Irving, especially after the latter was suspended following his tweet promoting an antisemitic film. However, the Nets were buoyed by some mercurial performances from him and Kevin Durant to make the Top five in the Eastern Conference. And perhaps his tweet might seem to be more than just a GIF.

Kyrie Irving Had Posted A Cryptic Tweet Before Requesting A Trade

What was looked at as a relatively quiet deadline window instantly became a beehive of activity after Irving asked to be traded?

While there is no concrete development about where he would eventually land, he took to Twitter before dropping the shocker with a cryptic message.

To my Peers: JUST BE YOURSelf and GROW! Keep people around who CELEBRATE YOU unconditionally and appreciates all of the hard work that gets put in.

Distance yourself from the folks who manipulate, hate, and hurt. Hélà

It does look like he’s made his intentions clear, and that’s to leave the Nets. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, he reportedly turned down a deal that was offered to him.

The Nets recently offered Irving an extension with guarantee stipulations, according to league sources, an offer which was declined. Sources with direct knowledge of the negotiations who have been granted anonymity so that they could speak freely say that the extension offer was not well received and that there have been principle differences that have emerged between the Nets and Irving.

Looking at his tweet patterns, it’s safe to speculate that Irving has a story to tell, and maybe he will when he finds a new home. Only time will tell if that will be before the deadline or in July.
