Jayson Tatum tends to be a little inconsistent at times, but when he is at his best, he is as good as any superstar in the NBA. He proved it with his 51-point Game 7 explosion against the Sixers, leading his team to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Tatum and the Boston Celtics went to the NBA Finals last season, and are a series win against the 8th-seeded Miami Heat away from making it there again. And a matchup against their legendary rivals, the Lakers, is potentially on the cards. Even with all this context, Lakers man Dennis Schroder still took to social media to praise Tatum.

“He wasn’t lying about being one of the best in the world That‘s Tuff!” Schroder wrote.

His comment was a reference to when Jayson Tatum referred to himself as one of the best in the world following a win against the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 6. Tatum had said, “Humbly, I’m one of the best basketball players in the world. Go through struggles go through slumps. Thankfully I got some great teammates to hold it down, Brogdon, JB, Smart, Al.”

Jayson Tatum got roasted for saying that considering his poor shooting performance on that night. But the fact remains that he backed it up immediately after, during the next game. Schroder saying that is also interesting, considering that the Lakers and Celtics are historical rivals. The respect seems mutual, and the prospect of a Finals clash between Los Angeles and Boston once again looms large.

Jayson Tatum Earned Comparisons To LeBron James After His Dominant Display

For the better part of two decades, the Eastern Conference ran through only one man, LeBron James. He regularly put up monster performances against teams in the East, and Tatum’s 51 points seemingly reminded Doc Rivers of Schroder’s current teammate, the King

“I’ve seen one. It was in this building… it was LeBron. That’s the only time I have seen a performance like that live. I am glad that I haven’t seen many, but I have seen one.”

Jayson Tatum impressed last season during the playoffs, only to disappoint during the NBA Finals. He knows what it is like now, and will surely be hoping to redeem himself this season. Getting through Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat is the first order of business though, and then a series against LeBron James, Dennis Schroder, and the Lakers possibly awaits.
