When LeBron James joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, he was expected to bring back the glory days to the iconic NBA franchise.

For what it’s worth, James did lead the Lakers to an NBA title in 2020. Apart from that, LeBron helped the Lakers reach the Western Conference Finals this season. Outside of it, James’ career with the Purple and Gold has been lackluster. If he retires this summer, the Lakers will certainly retire his jersey, but has the King done enough to get a statue outside the Crypto.com Arena?

To get a statue outside of an arena, a player should be nothing less than a franchise legend. LeBron is yet to reach that status with the Lakers, and that’s what most fans believe as they dropped several comments against the idea below the Instagram post.

“LeBron is basically synonymous with Cleveland no matter where he goes. Jersey retirement, yes both in LA and Miami, but the statue should be in Cleveland,” a fan wrote.

“No!! No statue No Jersey retirement,” a fan protested.

“Nope. Only one championship doesn’t qualify him for a statue. We need a Kobe statue asap,” another fan pointed out that Kobe Bryant should get a statue.

“One ring is not enough, lol,” a fan pointed out.

“Definitely will get and deserve one in Cleveland.. not LA.. we’ll definitely retire his jersey, but only one of them cause you ain’t Kobe,” a fan calmly explained.

It’s true that LeBron James is one of the greatest players of all time. But he has played just five seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and missed the playoffs in two of them.

The King broke the NBA’s all-time scoring record while donning the Purple and Gold jersey, but that’s an individual record instead of a team accomplishment.

LeBron James Is Considering Retirement

After getting swept in the Western Conference Finals vs. the Denver Nuggets, LeBron James dropped a bomb in the form of hinting at his retirement this summer.

James didn’t give a concrete answer about it but revealed that he’d certainly think about it. Many believe it’s a stunt by the King to distract people about the Lakers getting swept.

On the other hand, others believe that he’s threatening the Lakers to add a third star. Either way, if James indeed retires from the league this summer, it will be an end to unarguably one of the best careers in NBA history.
