Russell Westbrook is no more a Los Angeles Laker. His stint with Purple and Gold ends less than two years after he was part of a blockbuster trade. And fans had contrasting thoughts about his much-talked exit.

The 34-year-old was acquired with the hope that he would pair up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis to put the Lakers back in title contention, but a poor season marred with injuries and his own indifferent form saw the side fail to make the playoffs last year.

He was traded to the Utah Jazz and the Lakers managed to reacquire point guard D’Angelo Russell from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a massive three-team, eight-player trade.

The former MVP embraced his role as the Lakers’ sixth man averaging 15.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists. And while there were signs of vintage Russ, he will now move to his fifth team in five years. Westbrook will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Los Angeles Lakers Fans React To Russell Westbrook’s Trade

Westbrook’s future always had at least a column’s space in sports sections. The Lakers were tight-lipped about their moves concerning the guard throughout the first half of the season, and while he was looked at as one of their trade options ahead of the deadline, nothing was set in stone.

But now, the Westbrook saga has come to an end, and some Lakers fans were actually at loss for words. A segment thanked him for his contributions, while some believed, LA now has a chance to nail a playoff spot and even push beyond.

This is the greatest day ever

Now y’all can go from 13th to 9th seed

Being an LA native, I would’ve LOVED for this to have worked out and have Russ raising the trophy on Figueroa.

I’m a big westbrook fan. Especially his prime okc days. But he’s just not that guy anymore. Great hall of fame career and wish him the best but its good he’s gone.

He’s gonna love the crowds in Utah

I wish him well, truly

Never have liked his game but by all accounts he’s a very good teammate and off the court a great father. Wish him the best of luck and hope the next team he’s on is a better fit for his style of play

This season he has remarkably improved and adjusted but he’s had a lot of bad games, or badly timed bad plays.

I don’t think he’s washed man. Just a very bad fit. I’m hoping he finds success.

Credit to Russ for going to the bench and being a pro. Wishing him success.

At the time of writing, Westbrook being bought out is the latest buzz doing the rounds. Per CBS’ Sam Quinn, the former Laker has reported interest from the A LA Clippers and the Chicago Bulls.

It remains to be seen where Westbrook eventually ends up. What can’t be written off is the fact that he’s got enough gas left in the tank.
