In Game 3 against the Golden State Warriors, LeBron James did not even attempt a single field goal in the first quarter.

It was the first time in his playoff career that James had failed to do so and after the game, he explained the reason behind it.

“Well obviously, you see the way DLo (D’Angelo Russell) started the game,” James said. “I think he had our first 11, and then AD (Anthony Davis) chipped in I believe seven in that quarter. So it allowed me to kind of focus on the glass, also had a few assists in that first quarter. Wasn’t how the game was planned but that’s just how the game was going and for me, I’m never a force guy. I’ve always been a guy that lets the game come to me and make my imprint when needed.”

(start at 0:47 mark):

Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell scored the first 21 points for the Los Angeles Lakers as LeBron took a backseat. He was perhaps a bit too passive, however, as the rest of the team apart from those two were struggling. While Davis and Russell were a combined 7-12 from the field, the rest shot just 1-8 as the Lakers fell behind 30-23 at the end of the first quarter.

LeBron would get a lot more aggressive in the second quarter with 10 points and he would eventually finish with 21 on the night, on 6-11 shooting from the field. He also had 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and a block as the Lakers blew out the Warriors 127-97.

The Warriors Are Trying To Figure Out How To Play Against This Version Of LeBron James

Draymond Green had said after Game 1 that James is playing a different style of basketball now as he is playing off the ball a lot. Green stated it was quite interesting and that it was something they would have to adjust to, but it doesn’t seem like they have done that so far.

Green revealed on the latest episode of his podcast that Stephen Curry was trying to figure out LeBron after he didn’t attempt a shot for much of the first half. The Warriors have more experience than anyone else when it comes to facing James but they seem to be having a hard time figuring out this version of him.
