Lakers star LeBron James walked off in defeat as the final buzzer sounded and gave his team the loss in Game 2 on Thursday night. After building a big lead in the first half, the Lakers struggled to keep it going down the stretch of the game and it looked like Lakers players just ran out of gas in the closing minutes, LeBron included.

But even after going down two games to the to-seeded Nuggets, LeBron didn’t let his squad hang their heads. Instead, he had his guys re-group and shift the focus to preparing for Game 3, where they’ll have the chance to get a win on the board

.”This is not the NCAA tournament,” James said. “It’s first to 4 wins.”

Indeed, the Lakers are not dead yet. They are down two games, but they can still easily come back if they can protect their home court back in Los Angeles.

As for LeBron himself, he tweaked his ankle during the game so there’s a chance he won’t be the same for the rest of the way. But he will definitely give it a try and the Lakers will need him at his best if they want any hope of bouncing back.

Is This The Nuggets’ Breakout Year?

For years now, the Nuggets have been on the cusp of title contention as a great regular-season team that often came up short in the playoffs. But now with Jokic and Murray leading the way, the Nuggets look equipped to handle any team in the West.

If they can close the Lakers out, they may have a straight path to the championship.

“They’re a better team,” said LeBron on the 2023 Nuggets. “Obviously, they’re more experienced. Every game, every matchup allows you to grow as a franchise and as a team and they’ve done that. We come in with the utmost respect for this team and I’m looking forward to the matchup.”

Denver cannot waste this opportunity. Up 2-0, they should come out of Los Angeles with at least one more win, which would put them back in Denver up 3-1 and have a chance to close out the series in five games.
