LeBron James is one of the standout athletes of his generation and arguably the greatest basketball player ever. But his play style often rubs people the wrong way.

Game 2 between the Lakers and Nuggets had a lot of gamesmanship between LeBron and Nikola Jokic, with the pair often matching up with each other and flopping to get calls. San Antonio Spurs’ rookie Jeremy Sochan mocked James on Twitter for the same.

“Why does Kings James flop so much?”

Now that the Spurs are likely to draft Victor Wembanyama, the young players on the team will feel more comfortable talking trash to others. James played the same way he always does, but Sochan criticizing it now could likely be a result of the additional confidence he’s gained knowing Wembanyama will be on his squad next season.

Sochan had also mocked Russell Westbrook during his time with the Lakers earlier in the season.

LeBron James Remembers Everything

What we saw in these playoffs is that LeBron can really find a second wind when he’s playing with pettiness. We saw that when James was being instigated by Dillon Brooks and we saw that when JaMychal Green implied LeBron was a liar. Funnily enough, even that was about flopping as James said he doesn’t practice it.

Sochan will have the backing of the terrific Spurs’ young core but with a genuine future superstar in the mix with Wembanyama. Given Victor already has a positive relationship with LeBron, it’s hard to say that he will be antagonistic toward the all-time leading scorer. But ultimately, what happens on the court stays on the court, so the Spurs vs. Lakers matchup next season has some added intrigue to it now.
