Following another brutal defeat on Sunday, LeBron James spoke candidly about his team and the reality of their situation with just a handful left of games to go.
While frustrated, LeBron knows what to expect from his squad and isn’t particularly surprised by their tendency to blow big leads.
“We are who we are. I mean, there’s not much of a ‘processing’ when you know you can get out and score 35 in a quarter, 40 in a quarter, and the other team 18 in a quarter,” said James. “But then you also know that you can give up 40 in a quarter in the same game. Yeah it’s frustrating, obviously, but we are who we are and it’s not like we’re trying to figure out something more than that.”
If nothing else, the Lakers have been consistent. From the very beginning, the team has struggled with glaring issues both on offense and defense.
Frequently, they blow big leads and lose games to inferior squads. It’s been the story of their journey so far.
“It’s just a microcosm of our season,” said LeBron after the game. “We haven’t been able to sustain all year, and tonight was one of those instances.”
James, 37, is in his 19th season. Despite his age and the countless minutes of basketball he has racked up, he continues to be one of the NBA’s best players.
Through 55 games, he’s averaging 30.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game on 52.3% shooting.
The Lakers, who are fighting for their playoff lives, will play the Mavericks at home tonight before facing off against the Utah Jazz on Thursday.
