LeBron James should be locked and loaded for a second-half season push that he’s never had to do before. We’ve seen him do something similar with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018, but the Cavs were not 5 games under .500 heading into the All-Star break as the 13th seed in the West.

Everyone knows that the Lakers have a tall task ahead of them in terms of making the playoffs. They have a 27-32 record through their first 59 games this season and can’t lose more than 7-8 games over their last 23 games to ensure they can realistically make the postseason.

LeBron James agrees that this stretch may be a defining one for his career, calling the remaining 23 games of the season the most important games of his career.

The Lakers could sneak into the 10th or 9th seed even if they get back to a .500 record, but the team is definitely aiming higher. They’ll at least want to take the route from the 7th or 8th seed, if not somehow push for the 6th seed and get an automatic playoff berth.

Are The Lakers Likely To Make The Playoffs?

In terms of on-paper talent, the Lakers might have one of the best rosters in the West after the trade deadline. Their win over the Pelicans showed that this team could be dominant against even tough opposition, given the versatility of the players on the roster. The skill sets of the new players also align really well with what LeBron and Anthony Davis needed.

The Lakers should at least qualify for the play-in, even after the deficit they’re in right now. They have a better roster than the Blazers or even the inexperienced Thunder to be behind them in the standings. Hopefully, LeBron can galvanize his troops at this juncture of the season and save the Lakers from another year of no playoff basketball.
