LeBron James Describes What Each Of The Lakers New Acquisitions Provide To The Team
For most of the 2022-23 NBA season, the mood around the Los Angeles Lakers fanbase hasn't really been up to the mark. But things have finally changed for the iconic NBA franchise since the NBA Trade Deadline.
Rob Pelinka was very active around the NBA Trade Deadline and did his absolute best to surround the superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis with quality role players.
The 3-team trade that helped the Lakers in acquiring D'Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and Jarred Vanderbilt changed things drastically for the organization as it helped the team in finally parting ways with Russell Westbrook. But Pelinka didn't stop there.
The Lakers general manager then decided to trade Patrick Beverley to the Orlando Magic for Mo Bamba.
LeBron James Reacts To The Lakers' NBA Trade Deadline Acquisitions
LeBron James finally returned to the team after missing three consecutive games due to a foot injury. In his return against the New Orleans Pelicans, James dominated the game by recording 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists in just 29 minutes of action.
James' contributions helped the team register a 120-102 victory over the Pelicans. After playing his first game with the new-look Lakers, James was asked about his thoughts on the new acquisitions made by the team in the postgame conference.
(Starts at 4:29)
I know they play the game at a high level. I think DLo is a really good, shifty, point guard. Can space the floor, very crafty. Very deceiving with his quickness. We got a laser in Malik, which we just never had … No matter if he’s making it or not, you have to respect him because of his ability to shoot the ball. Vando’s a Swiss Army Knife, he can do a little bit of everything. You saw Mo’s shot-blocking ability, and his ability to shoot the 3."
If the new-look Lakers can continue playing at the level which they did against the Pelicans, the LeBron James-led team can make a push to advance to the postseason after the NBA All-Star break.
Speaking of the performances of the new acquisitions, Russell had 21 points, 2 rebounds, and 7 assists. While Beasley, Mo Bamba, and Vanderbilt combined for 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Considering how little time the new players have spent with the current Lakers, things are certainly heading toward greater things.
