The Los Angeles Lakers are back at .500 after a miserable start to the season. While the future is still up in the air for this Lakers squad, the return of LeBron James has elevated the team back to another level of play in this final stretch of games.

On Wednesday, however, it was Anthony Davis who dominated the competition, pouring in 38 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists in the 121-110 win over the Bulls. After the final buzzer, LeBron had a lot to say about his dominant co-star…

“He always plays like that,” said James on Davis’ superior play. “Just got to kick him in the a** every now and then. But he always plays like that so I never worry about him.”

LeBron James asked about Anthony Davis' dominant night: "He always plays like that. … Just got to kick him in the ass every now and then. But he always plays like that so I never worry about him."

In reality, Davis can be very streaky as a scorer and sometimes struggles to bring the level of intensity and aggression the Lakers need him to play with.

Still, Davis is always a force to be reckoned with, and he’s the reason why the Purple and Gold have been able to remain so relevant in the James era. But is AD ready to finally take the torch from Lebron as the leader of the Lakers?

Anthony Davis Is Ready To Make A Deep Playoff Push

With their play-in spot pretty much a lock, the Lakers can rest easy knowing they will at least have a chance to win the title before it’s all said and done. How far they go in the postseason remains to be seen, but AD has never been more confident.

“I think we’ve established the team that we want to be,” Davis said, via ESPN. “It started from our defense, got back in a fight and still missing LeBron. We’ve jelled pretty quickly and are able to make some noise and have people notice us again. I just try to come out each game with a mindset of must-win, dominate, and the rest will take care of itself… The team we have now, we feel like not only can we make noise this year, and I like our chance against anybody to be honest. You put anybody against us, I like our chances.”

As long as LeBron stays healthy and Davis remains at the top of his game, the Lakers can go toe-to-toe against any team in the league. Thanks to Rob Pelinka and his moves at the deadline, this team has forced itself into the playoff mix.

Now, they have to prove they belong by showing some consistency and winning when it matters the most.
