Los Angeles Lakers Could Give Anthony Davis Contract Extension If He's Willing To Take A Pay Cut, Says NBA Executive
Big man Anthony Davis is one of the best superstars in the league when he's healthy and playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. His two-way prowess is respected by many in the league. However, his issue has been durability, and it is fair to say that Davis needs to improve in that department.
Some reports have indicated that the Los Angeles Lakers are reluctant to give Anthony Davis an extension. However recently, an NBA executive suggested that the two parties could come to an agreement if Davis is willing to take a pay cut on his next deal. Sean Deveney of Heavy reported the news.
“There will be a bit more money on the market in 2024,” one Eastern Conference exec said. “That would make them nervous. But nervous enough to give (Davis) $60 million a year? I doubt that. Because the Pacers aren’t giving him million $60 per year and you do not want to bid against yourself. It’s got to be reasonable for both sides. If Davis would play ball and sign for less, two years and $80 million or something, then maybe something gets done.”
It will be interesting to see if Anthony Davis would be willing to take less to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers. It is definitely a possibility if he wants to stay with a competitive franchise like the Lakers, and we'll see what happens in the future.
During the 2022-23 regular season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis averaged 25.9 PPG, 12.5 RPG, and 2.6 APG. He is clearly an All-NBA talent, and it'll be interesting to see what happens with his contract extension in the future.
Rob Pelinka Thinks Very Highly Of Anthony Davis
Rob Pelinka thinks very highly of Anthony Davis as a player, and perhaps that can play a role in the superstar getting an extension. In fact, Pelinka lauded him for being an "incredible captain and leader".
"He's been an incredible captain and leader. We saw last year, willing to play through a hard foot injury to get our team to the Western Conference finals. So, just love having him as a part of our team."
It remains to be seen if Anthony Davis has another gear to reach. If he can stay healthy and show he can be the No. 1 option for the Los Angeles Lakers, an extension should be a no-brainer.
