The Los Angeles Lakers, once again are set to have an entertaining offseason where they’ll try to assemble a good group of players that can take them to compete for big things in the NBA.

The 2022-23 NBA season didn’t go as expected, but the Purple and Gold exceeded expectations, going all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Now, they hope to emulate and improve this performance and are aiming to bring back as many players from this year’s team as possible.

“The tentative plan for the Lakers is to run it back with as much of this past season’s group as they can possibly afford under the new, stricter collective bargaining agreement. They will only pursue a third star if they deem that player of a certain caliber and believe he can fit next to James and Davis,” Jovan Buha of The Athletic writes.

“I think they run it back, or try to upgrade the point guard/lead ballhandler spot (Kyrie Irving, Fred VanVleet, Trae Young, etc.).”

This is a very good idea for the Lakers, but the new CBA makes things more difficult. The NBA is yet to give the teams the final paper on the new agreement, which will make free agency more interesting once this season is officially over.

The Lakers have always found a way to bring in good players. Sometimes they fare well, sometimes they don’t, but it seems like can land every target they have, except for Kyrie Irving.

The Lakers Are Focused On Keeping Austin Reaves On The Roster

Recent reports suggest that the Lakers have made keeping Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura on the roster their top priority this summer. These two played big roles for the team during this season, and they are considered part of the future.

Moreover, they are really keen on retaining Reaves and are reportedly set to match the $100 million offers the young guard receives in free agency. It won’t be easy, but the Lakers won’t give up on this.

Reaves has made it clear he wants to stay with the Purple and Gold, but other teams like the San Antonio Spurs could snatch him away from Los Angeles in the offseason.
