Luka Doncic has proven that he’s one of the most lethal guards in the modern NBA this season, carrying the Dallas Mavericks to a .500 record.

The Mavericks face the Los Angeles Lakers in a matchup with huge playoff implications tomorrow, and Doncic will miss the game due to a thigh injury.

Luka Doncic hasn’t played in the last 3 games for the Mavs after suffering a thigh strain against the New Orleans Pelicans. His presence will be sorely missed, as even Kyrie Irving has been listed as questionable. If both Irving and Doncic end up missing the game, the Lakers might get the chance to rectify the mistakes that caused them to lose to the Rockets.

A Disappointing Year In Dallas?

The Mavericks started the season out with a lot of hope after their run to the Conference Finals last season. Sadly, the Mavs have struggled for most of the year, with Luka Doncic averaging historic numbers while the team regressed. They added Kyrie Irving in the winter but lost defensive personnel and need more time to construct an offense around the two best iso players in the league right now.

With the news that the Lakers will not be pursuing Irving, the Mavs are likely to re-sign him in the summer. This will give Luka and Kyrie the chance to properly establish a relationship and establish more on-court chemistry. The Mavs can also make supplemental moves to get strong defensive personnel on the roster.

The Mavs will push for the playoffs over the remainder of this season, but it’s clear that they will not achieve the same heights they reached last season.
