The Los Angeles Lakers’ journey in the 2023 NBA playoffs ended in the Western Conference Finals. The Purple and Gold got swept by the Denver Nuggets.
Getting swept is certainly embarrassing for any team. But considering how far the Lakers came this season, there were definitely more positives than negatives for the team. Lakers legend Magic Johnson tweeted a positive message about the team’s roster next season following the Game 4 loss.
“Laker Nation, it’s a couple things we now know…we have the right Coach with Darvin Ham, two superstars in LeBron and Anthony Davis, and emerging stars in Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura. Hopefully, Rob Pelinka will have an outstanding offseason and build on this Playoff run.”

Johnson’s tweet was uplifting, but there is a chance that all the crucial pieces of the Lakers’ roster do not return for the next season. It all starts with recent rumors about LeBron James considering retiring.
Apart from that, Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves will be looking forward to getting paid this summer. If Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka can iron out these issues, then the organization may even end up winning the NBA Championship next season.
Otherwise, the Lakers will get worse rather than better following the Conference Finals exit in the 2023 NBA playoffs.
Darvin Ham Wants To Win An NBA Championship
Being a rookie head coach, Darvin Ham did an excellent job for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. Sure, Ham was happy about where the team ended up after having a 2-10 start, but he wasn’t completely satisfied.
Following the heartbreaking Game 4 loss in the series, Ham shared his thoughts on his expectations from the team next season. Ham doesn’t want to settle for anything less than championship banner number 18.
“Coming into next year, there’s gonna be expectations with this organization as it should be and what this organization has meant to the NBA and to the world of sports as a whole. … I didn’t come here to have more wins than losses, or make a playoff round one, or make a playoff run, I came to win.”
Ham is certainly thinking in the right direction and the Lakers need that moving forward. Hopefully, the Laker Nation will get to see the franchise lift the Larry O’Brien trophy once again sooner rather than later.
