Magic Johnson is one of the most likable athletes in the history of the game, his winning smile and cheerful demeanor have made him a favorite for fans of basketball regardless of team allegiances. Everything about Magic seems so wholesome, including the fact that he has been married to his wife, Cookie, for over 30 years now and that the duo has been together since they first met in college.

Making a marriage work for 30 years is not easy for normal people, let alone for one of the biggest superstars to have played any sport. And while the two were together during Magic’s years in the NBA, their relationship was very volatile, filled with ups and downs, and Magic ended up having a child with another woman during that time.

And speaking at the premiere of the ‘They Call Me Magic’ documentary, Magic spoke to Access Hollywood about his marriage and the decision they made to not get married during his playing career. Magic suggested that it was a key reason in keeping them together for so long afterwards.

“I’m glad that it went that way, because we are having the best times of our lives. We’ve been married 30 years, and it’s still like yesterday. If we’d got married while I was playing, we would’ve got divorced – fast,” he said.

While some will say that getting married quickly is always a better option, in this case, it proved to be what has kept Johnson and his wife going strong for so long. Magic uploaded quite the wholesome post for their 30th anniversary in 2021, more evidence of how well it’s still going for them.

There will be a lot more insight into Magic’s life that fans will become privy to after the documentary airs, and it will have fans excited. Johnson has led one of the most interesting lives of any NBA superstar on and off the court, including things like him choosing Converse over Nike and hearing about it from the people that were there promises to be quite exciting!
