Throughout the course of their history, the Los Angeles Lakers have had some of the best, most dominant, and talented duos to ever set foot on a basketball hardwood.
Jerry West and Elgin Baylor, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal, and now LeBron James and Anthony Davis are perfect examples of that trend.
That’s why they entered this season heavily-favored to win it all, especially considering how well they meshed together since the start of the campaign.
One of the stories of the season has been the fact that James has kind of taken the back-seat to Anthony Davis to let him run the show. That has helped him stay fresh for when it matters the most. However, according to Lakers’ forward Markieff Morris, that’s how it’s supposed to be because Davis, not LeBron, is the best player in the world right now:
“We got LeBron but I think he’s the best player in the world. He does it on both ends and does it consistently every night,” Morris said.

And while some LeBron fans may not like to hear that, it’s not that far-fetched at all. I mean, it’s only normal to think that a 35-year-old player will have to pass the torch eventually, and who better than one of his teammates?
Davis surely played like the best player on the planet during his very first appearance in the NBA Finals last night, tallying 34 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 three-pointers, and 3 blocks.
James didn’t was that far behind him with 25 points, 13 boards, 9 assists, and a couple of three-pointers and when both are playing at such a superlative level, there’s just no team on earth capable of beating them.
