The Dallas Mavericks gave up a lot of assets to trade for Kyrie Irving earlier this season. Following the trade, the Mavericks formed a dynamic duo with Irving and Luka Doncic.

Evidently, the Mavs were expected to become one of the top teams in the Western Conference. Instead, they have further regressed as a team and are currently the 11th seed in the Western Conference, with a 37-40 record. Former NBA player Matt Barnes thinks Kyrie Irving is to blame for the Mavericks’ struggles this season.

“It just seems like everywhere Kyrie goes, there is an issue,” Barnes said. “Now, that could be a coincidence, or it could be that Kyrie is the issue. Again, as great a talent he is, a top-five talent no doubt, but it just seems like every time he makes a pit stop, s**t gets f****d up.”

Barnes essentially didn’t take a shot at Irving, but he did use the examples of his previous stints with teams to justify the Mavericks’ sinking season.

Is Barnes correct? In a way, one might think so. After all, a couple of days ago, Luka Doncic openly admitted to being frustrated with the Mavericks’ poor form. For a player like Luka to make that admission is definitely a concern for the Dallas Mavericks.

Kyrie Irving’s Brutally Honest Answer To The Mavericks’ Poor Season

Let’s be honest, the Dallas Mavericks are on the verge of getting eliminated from playoff contention, there’s no way to deny that. With just five games left to be played the, Mavs are still out of a play-in spot.

Keeping that in mind, Kyrie recently opened up about the Mavericks’ dwindling playoffs hopes. Irving gave an NSFW answer to the question.

Considering the fact that the Mavericks were four games above .500 prior to the NBA trade deadline, it’s certainly disappointing. The team has won just six out of their last 20 games, which is truly unacceptable for a team targeting to win the NBA Championship.
