When he is available, Kyrie Irving is one of the best offensive players in the league. He is an elite scorer with amazing ballhandling ability. Irving has been stellar during his time with the Dallas Mavericks, but he will be a free agent this summer, which means the team could end up losing him for nothing.
Even though there is a threat of Kyrie Irving leaving in free agency, Mavericks GM Nico Harrison has expressed confidence about the team’s chances of retaining Kyrie Irving. Harrison noted that Irving stated that he “feels appreciated” on the franchise, adding that this gives him “optimism” about their chances of getting him back in free agency.
“The things that he said along the way about how he feels here, how he feels appreciated, how he feels um, accepted and allowed to be himself — those are the things that he said kind of consistently. That’s what gives me the optimism that he wants to be here.”

There is no doubt that keeping Kyrie Irving is the optimal move for the Dallas Mavericks. They need him to have the foundation to build a contender in the Western Conference, and it would be unsurprising to see the team offer him a long-term, big-money extension.
Kyrie Irving has averaged 27.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 5.3 APG over the course of this season. If his availability wasn’t in question, he’d easily be an All-NBA level talent, but it is clear that this has been a concern over the last few years.
Kyrie Irving Declined To Do An Exit Interview With The Dallas Mavericks
A lot of teams have exit interviews at the end of each season, with all players generally being willing to participate in answering questions from the media. However, Kyrie Irving declined to do an exit interview, even though his Dallas Mavericks teammates all partook in them.
“Kyrie Irving declined to do an exit interview with the Dallas media. Other Mavs, including Luka Doncic, did exit interviews today.”
Hopefully, this doesn’t mean anything in terms of Kyrie Irving’s free agency decision. The point guard generally keeps things to himself when it comes to himself and his future, and we often see him surprise the public with his actions.
At the end of the day, the Dallas Mavericks feel good about re-signing Kyrie Irving and have clearly done a lot to support the point guard. We’ll see if that results in a new contract for the star, and Irving definitely deserves one, as he has been nothing but professional during his time in Dallas.
