Changes appear to be on the horizon for the Miami Heat as they are reportedly looking at adding a superstar this offseason by ‘dealing’ Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

Per Barry Jackson, “Heat will renew efforts to land a star this offseason. The only question is who (if anyone) would be big enough to make them consider dealing Butler or Bam. (Not talking about Lillard specifically). That’s the biggest question of the offseason, one they’ll need to seriously discuss.”

This would mean a serious roster shakeup. Earlier, speculations were rife that the Heat had Portland Trail Blazers mainstay Damian Lillard in their sights.

Earlier, NBA insider Brian Windhorst said Miami was one of the teams to watch out for in the summer. “The team I’m watching is the Miami Heat,” he said. “The Heat are ready to go to their next star window. This is what they do. The Heat hunts stars. His time would probably match Jimmy Butler’s in terms of age. They have tradeable things potentially that the Blazers could want. I’m being a little premature but that’s kind of what I see happening.”

Considering Butler’s age and the dire need for offensive firepower, Windhorst’s theory makes sense, though it’s still uncertain whether the Heat would trade their most-experienced campaigner. The current season sees him average 22.9 points, 5.9 boards, and 5.3 assists. He’s not done by far, but age does seem a valid factor.

The Miami Heat’s Immediate Objective: Make The Postseason

Offseason chatter aside, the Heat’s immediate objective is to make the playoffs by bagging the eighth seed in the East. The team came under intense flak for blowing the game against the Atlanta Hawks, but they have another shot at cementing a postseason berth.

But, they face a stern test against the Chicago Bulls, who are riding high on the momentum gained after pipping the Toronto Raptors in the play-in. DeMar DeRozan’s side has also edged out the Heat in all of their regular season contests.

All eyes will be on Butler to steer the side into the playoffs. The forward went supersonic in the second half of the season, but Friday’s matchup is when he has to bring his A-game, and only time will tell if he can.
