Derrick Rose is one of the biggest what-ifs in NBA history. Rose was a superstar when he entered the league in 2008, and within three years, went on to become the youngest NBA MVP in history. He looked like he would be the leader of the second Bulls dynasty. And he even had the approval of Michael Jordan.

During a 20th anniversary celebration of the Chicago Bulls winning their first NBA championship, Bulls legend Michael Jordan spoke to the fans at the United Center. Speaking about the Bulls, Jordan said that Rose and his team were capable of bringing six NBA championships to Chicago as he and Scottie Pippen did in the 1990s.

“You guys are in store for a lot of other championships. You look at this team tonight, don’t be surprised if you’re gonna have six more coming”.

Jordan clearly thought very highly of Derrick Rose, and rightfully so. Rose was the first player since Michael Jordan to have won an MVP trophy while playing for the Bulls. And for the first time since his departure, the Bulls were back in playoff and championship contention thanks to Rose.

Derrick Rose’s Injury Changed Everything For The Bulls

Things were looking good for Rose and the Bulls. They were the best team in the Eastern Conference after the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics, the latter of whom weren’t going to last long because of their age. But everything changed during the 2012 NBA playoffs.

Derrick Rose tore his ACL during a game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Rose would be out for over a year, and after his return, while he was still great, he wasn’t the same player. He developed an injury bug, which eventually caused him to lose his explosiveness and become more of a role player, bouncing around from team to team.

Rose recently signed with the Memphis Grizzlies, where many expect him to be a mentor to Ja Morant, a player who is very similar to him and has high potential. Former NBA player Isaiah Thomas believes Rose will help Morant win the NBA MVP trophy in the future.
