Mikal Bridges was beloved in Phoenix but it doesn’t look like many Suns fans will be crying over his departure given he was traded for Kevin Durant.

The Suns have sent a host of picks and players to the Brooklyn Nets for Durant and Bridges is one of them. One of the contenders for Defensive Player of the Year last season, Bridges will now hope to develop into a complete forward on the Nets, who have said goodbye to their superstar core of Kyrie Irving and KD.

Bridges was quick to react to seeing him be sent from the Suns to his new team, tweeting out a basically instant reaction to the news.

Bridges will be missed in Phoenix but he had to go if the Suns had a chance of getting KD. Durant was linked to the Suns in the summer but nothing ended up materializing then. The Suns will be happy their offer for Kyrie Irving fell through a couple of days ago, as they used those assets (and much more) to acquire Durant to put alongside Deandre Ayton, Chris Paul, and most importantly, Devin Booker.

Will This Move Work Well For The Suns?

The Phoenix Suns have to be looked at as one of the favorites to come out of the West based on pure talent alone. The scoring punch that KD and Booker provide cannot be replicated by any other team in the league. While losing Mikal will severely impact the Suns’ defense, they’ll have to make it work given the circumstances.

This is a league-changing move and will likely have knock-on effects with more West teams looking to reinforce themselves to be able to compete with the moves the Suns and Lakers have made today. Only the NBA trade deadline can bring this much excitement.
