Kyrie Irving is out as point guard of the Brooklyn Nets, and could Kevin Durant be next? As the NBA world digests the latest Kyrie trade, many remain focused on the future of KD and how the departure of his friend and co-star might change his loyalties.

In fact, in the immediate aftermath of the Irving news, the Phoenix Suns were identified as a team with interest in the 2x Finals MVP.

The Phoenix Suns are prepared to pursue Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant should he become available, league sources told Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes.

The Suns were tied to Durant back in the summer but ultimately failed to satisfy the Nets with their offer. If he asks out again, the Net might be more inclined to accept an offer this time based on the trajectory of their franchise.

Amongst the chorus of reactions online, Suns forward Mikal Bridges couldn’t hold back from posting his reaction online, which stirred a lot of speculation.

Are The Suns Title Favorites With Kevin Durant?

While nobody is particularly surprised at the Nets’ collapse, it came much sooner than anybody thought. Just a few weeks ago, before Kevin Durant got hurt, he and Kyrie Irving had the whole league on notice as they led the team to 11 straight wins.

But after a rough stretch of basketball, and breakdowns in contract negotiations, Kyrie forced his hand and essentially started a ripple effect of chaos throughout the league.

While Durant hasn’t asked out again (yet), the possibility is real that he gets traded as well before the February 9th deadline and the Suns would make a lot of sense as a landing spot.

Alongside Devin Booker and head coach Monty Williams, Durant would be set up for immediate success and it would be hard to pick against them in any series.

But questions remain on the Nets’ current plans and what other offers they’d receive for a player like KD.

For now, all they can do is wait patiently as Durant considers his options, but the Suns aren’t going to let another opportunity slip to trade for one of the game’s most elite two-way stars.

This season, through 39 games, Durant is averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game on 55.9% shooting.
