After striking out on Victor Wembanyama, many basketball fans were interested to see how the Houston Rockets would respond. It has been years since James Harden left and sent the franchise into purgatory, and they have practically nothing to show for it.
This summer, it seems the Rockets are looking to change that as they prepare to pursue a number of high-level, win-now role players that, includes Dillon Brooks, Fred VanVleet, and Khris Middleton, among others.

On paper, the Rockets are still a very young team with no real identity. And after hiring Ime Udoka a few weeks ago, they are still adjusting to the new coaching staff and their updated game plan.
Chasing established veterans like Brooks and Lopez suggests that the Rockets are looking to move away from their rebuild to enter an era of prosperity. The question is, who will be the face of this new era?
Rockets Will Make A Run For James Harden Or Kyrie Irving
We can expect some more changes for Houston as the summer rolls on. Aside from guys like Jalen Green and Alperen Sengün, they will be using everything at their disposal to acquire a big-name star. According to some reports, James Harden is already halfway there…
“Harden is very comfortable in Houston, with a home, restaurant, and all of his favorite haunts in the city,” wrote Rockets insider Ari Alexander of KPRC. “He’s said to have a good relationship with Jalen Green (they’re close through both typical basketball events and as faces of Adidas Basketball, where Green regularly wears Harden’s signature shoes). Of course, he could also be using all of his Houston interest as leverage for a better deal with the 76ers, where he’s currently competing for a championship.”
With the 4th pick in the draft this year, Houston has some real leverage to make a move that will add depth and talent to the roster. But after finishing last season with a 22-60 record, it’s clear the Rockets have a lot of work to do before anyone can say they are ready to compete at the highest levels.
