As one of the summer’s biggest free agents, star point guard Kyrie Irving will have a number of options on his plate when it comes time to pick his next NBA contract. Undoubtedly, Irving will be following the money and it’s what would make the most sense for him, given where he’s at in his career.

Naturally, multiple teams have emerged as suitors for Irving in the event he would leave the Mavericks, but NBA insider Chris Haynes is confident that Uncle Drew will ultimately stay in Dallas this summer.

Kyrie struggled to find success in Dallas and even failed to make the play-in with Luka Doncic at his side. Despite this failure, however, there have been signs that Kyrie is leaning toward a return. Recently, for example, he recruited LeBron James to come play for the franchise amid rumors that he was considering retirement.

So, for now, it appears that Kyrie is all but certain to re-sign with the Mavericks, but one should always remain cautious when it comes to predicting the next move of Kyrie Irving.

Lakers Are Still In Play For Irving

The Mavericks are obviously leading the race for Kyrie, but the Lakers aren’t too far behind. If LeBron James decided to come back, and puts pressure on the team to improve the roster, GM Rob Pelinka could look to Kyrie to help bring LeBron some help.

“I don’t think they’ve shut the door completely on Kyrie coming to the Lakers at some point,” said Zach Lowe. “Just because it doesn’t happen this summer, if it doesn’t happen this summer, doesn’t mean it can’t ever happen. I don’t think that door is closed.”

Needless to say, a lot can happen between now and the start of July, but there is a world where Kyrie Irving is a Laker depending on how things play out.

No matter what, it’s important for the Mavericks to prevent that scenario from happening and make sure that Irving stays so they have something to build around Luka Doncic.
