With an amazing slate of games, contests, events, and viral moments, 2023 NBA All-Star weekend was exactly what fans were hoping it would be. For the past few days now, countless clips have gone viral with many smiling faces and exciting reactions.

It all built up to tonight, which features the biggest event of the weekend: the All-Star game itself. The actual game will remain mostly untouched, but the brand-new All-Star draft format added a whole other layer of excitement to the show.

Instead of picking teams weeks in advance, the captains (LeBron James in the West, Giannis Antetokounmpo in the East), the NBA let them build their squads right before tip-off and it made for an excellent viewing experience.

Giannis got the first pick from the reserves, and LeBron got to pick first from the pool of starters for being the number one top vote-getter this season. Here’s the full order of the picks for both teams.

Team Giannis: Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, DeMar DeRozan, Pascal Siakam, Bam Adebayo, Domantas Sabonis, Jayson Tatum (starter), Ja Morant (starter), Donovan Mitchell (starter), Lauri Markkanen (starter)

Team LeBron: Anthony Edwards, Jaylen Brown, Paul George, Tyrese Haliburton, Julius Randle, De’Aaron Fox, Jaren Jackson Jr., Joel Embiid (starter), Kyrie Irving (starter), Luka Doncic (starter), Nikola Jokic (starter)

Usually, fans have a longer window to debate which team they like better, but that wasn’t the case this year with the action happening just a few minutes after the rosters were built.

Team Giannis Vs. Team LeBron: Who Has The Better Squad?

James was 5-0 as an All-Star captain heading into tonight’s game, and he’s hoping to keep that streak going. This year, James added to his history of good All-Star drafts and he seems to prioritize a balance of shooting, size and rebounding.

Giannis wants and tries to win, of course, but he seems to choose his teams based on who he finds the most fun to play with.

Regardless of the results, however, the talent on display is going to guarantee a good show and that’s really all that matters when it comes to All-Star festivities.
