The James Harden-Philadelphia 76ers storyline is one of the off-season stories doing the rounds, and according to an NBA analyst, there is no market for the seasoned guard.
Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix suggested as much in his latest column while adding that the best route for Philadelphia would be to get Harden to play for one more season.
“There is no market for Harden. If there were, he would be gone already, either via free agency (again, Harden opted in) or trade. For weeks Sixers officials have been canvassing the NBA for a satisfactory offer. It isn’t there. The Clippers, Harden’s preferred destination, are interested. But not, it seems, at the cost of Terance Mann and what’s left of their first-round draft capital.”
At the time of writing, Harden is adamant to be part of the Clippers, although there is not much movement on the trade just yet. With reports saying that his relationship with Daryl Morey completely fractured, the trade is the only way out for ‘The Beard’ although Mannix suggests the franchise to run it back.
This comes on the back of Joel Embiid’s cryptic comment on his future with the Sixers, and now the franchise will have to figure out a way to keep their stars happy. One wants to win a championship elsewhere, while the other has subtly hinted that he will move bases if he has to achieve his goal of winning a maiden title.

In related news, a PhillyVoice report explained what the Sixers are looking for in exchange for Harden.
“They view their path to a Harden trade to accomplish one of two things — they want to get back a package that allows them to stay in the same tier of contention, sources say, or to make a trade that returns enough assets back to flip for another high-level player.”
The report further added:
“While there has been a lot of speculation that the Sixers could try to spin a Harden trade into a multi-team deal to chase a star, there does seem to be some pushback on the idea that they could execute that style of asset-flipping trade simultaneously with a Harden deal. The Sixers would prefer to be able to make or keep the team as competitive as possible as soon as possible, but they believe that requires getting an All-Star-level return for Harden in the event that they trade him.”
It’s understandable that the Sixers want potential in return for potential. But how it pans out is anyone’s guess.
