Former NBA star Kendrick Perkins believes that Joel Embiid’s cryptic comment about his future with the Philadelphia 76ers was a warning to the franchise.

Speaking on First Take, Perkins shared his thoughts on the MVP’s earlier statement, where he said his ultimate goal was to win a title with the Sixers or any other team.

“Absolutely, he’s sending a message,” Perkins explained. “Sometimes, the truth lies within jokes. The Philadelphia 76ers better take this as a warning because Joel Embiid, like all of us, is growing tired.”

“At what point is [Embiid] going to get tired [of the drama]?” Perkins said. “I think right now he’s sending a message.”

With James Harden requesting a trade out of Philly, Embiid will have the burden of shouldering the offense, and he made his stance clear on how he was disappointed t hear news of Harden wanting to leave the team.

At the same time, Embiid threw in a subtle message to the front office that he would look for avenues if the Sixers fail to make a deep playoff run this season.

Perkins’ thoughts make sense. Embiid has always been a man of few words, but while at it, he’s also a vocal personality. Wonder whether Philadelphia will fit him with the right pieces and give him a shot at winning a championship.

Richard Jefferson Believes Joel Embiid Will Leave The Philadelphia 76ers

Also reacting to Joel Embiid’s shocking remark was former Cleveland Cavaliers star and now Perkins’ colleague on ESPN, Richard Jefferson.

“I 100% believe him. Was LeBron more connected to Cleveland or is Philly more connected to Embiid? Bron was like, ‘Home? No, I am out, I am going to Miami, I want to win.’ Players want to win. They’re judged by that, so when he says it’s either going to be here or somewhere else, history tells us that great players will change teams.”

For now, the team favored to land Embiid in a trade is the New York Knicks. The team consists of the necessary assets that could trade with the 76ers. Only time will tell if Embiid becomes a Knick, or remains a longtime Sixers superstar.
