Bradley Beal finally being available for trade after years of fans wanting to see him move out of the Washington Wizards is great news. We can finally see how Beal performs on a team that actually wants to win, checking if his years of scoring success amounted to empty calories.
Kendrick Perkins believes the Celtics need to pair Beal up with his childhood friend Jayson Tatum.
“Bradley Beal and Jayson Tatum have been the loudest secret ever as far as wanting to play with each other. They have been tied together like cooked spaghetti. When I think about the situation, Bradley Beal is 29 years old and doesn’t have the time to tell the Wizards, give me a couple of years… With the St. Louis ties they have with wanting to be around each other and play together, this is the perfect time to make the move. If I’m the Celtics I’m calling them ASAP and trying to get the deal done.”

Kendrick Perkins tripped over his own logic as he explained that the Celtics need to do this deal because Jaylen Brown is supermax eligible and Boston wouldn’t want to pay him that. If that’s the case, why would they trade for Beal, who already has a supermax and has proven himself as a player that can’t lead a team to the playoffs? Perkins also suggested that the Lakers will try and sign James Harden despite the financial logic of that move not working out, so this has been a pattern of questionable suggestions.
Brown is younger and a two-way talent, so just for the sake of getting Tatum and Beal on the same team, trading Brown would be a catastrophic mistake.
Bradley Beal Is A Dangerous Asset For The Celtics
Beal has four years left on his contract and is entitled to $208 million over the next four seasons. Even if he approves a trade to get out of Washington, he will still have the no-trade clause powers on whichever team he goes to next. Paying that much of your salary to Beal and not having the freedom to move him without his permission could be a bad deal for Boston long-term.
The Celtics still have many years left with Jayson Tatum, so rushing into getting Beal for Brown could be a colossal mistake. If the Celtics can manage this by trading rotational pieces like Marcus Smart and Al Horford with some other contracts, it might be a possibility. Tatum has previously said he wants to play with Beal.
Beal averaged 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists last season and could add an end-of-game scoring option for the Celtics when Tatum and Brown are struggling. This pairing can be justified if the Celtics keep Brown as well, but the new CBA penalties will make roster construction almost impossible in the long run.
