Superstar Anthony Davis is one of the elite big men in this league, and there’s no doubt that he has carried the offensive load for the Los Angeles Lakers without LeBron James in the lineup. However, there’s no doubt that some still have criticism towards the big man.

Recently, NBA analyst Chris Broussard took shots at Anthony Davis, claiming that he is a “No. 1 talent”, but stating that he doesn’t have the mentality required to be the No. 1 option on a team.

“AD is not a No. 1 guy. He’s the No. 1 talent, but he doesn’t have the mentality of a No. 1 guy,” Broussard stated. “That’s why he didn’t take the torch from LeBron James in 2020 after winning that championship, because he’s not that guy. … Guys have subpar games, but it’s that AD doesn’t cherish the moment. … There are a lot of guys that would be like, ‘Oh, he’s out for 3 weeks? It’s my time! I’m about to take over & lead us.’”

There’s no doubt that this is a scathing evaluation of Anthony Davis from Chris Broussard. Anthony Davis has a 9-9 record without LeBron James this season, and hopefully, he can get a few more wins in the coming weeks and show that he can dominate as a No. 1 option on the Lakers.

As of right now, Anthony Davis is putting up 25.8 PPG, 12.5 RPG, and 2.1 BPG for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. Though he has done well as a No. 1 option for the Lakers overall, he has had a few subpar games recently, most notably against the Orlando Magic and the Dallas Mavericks, where he had a very poor clutch sequence. The Lakers will need him to keep stepping up, and perhaps we will see Anthony Davis reach another gear going forward.

Anthony Davis Has The Talent To Carry A Team

There is no doubt that Anthony Davis has the ability to bring a team to the playoffs as the No. 1 option. We have seen that during his time with the New Orleans Pelicans, and perhaps we’ll see it again this season, despite the consistent insistence from fans and analysts that Davis can’t carry a team.

The Los Angeles Lakers will need to see Anthony Davis dominate every game going forward, and actively drive winning. He definitely has some ability to carry a team, but he will need to do that at an even higher level to clinch a play-in tournament spot and make the playoffs via that avenue.
