The Phoenix Suns are reportedly taking a meeting with free agent Kyrie Irving before he decides on re-signing with the Dallas Mavericks, a thought that has many NBA fans concerned.

The Suns will be the definition of a superteam with Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and Kyrie on the roster. Fans had a fun time arguing over which one of the four would take the shots with the game on the line.

One fan used a video from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to convey how he felt.

One fan swore that Kyrie Irving would the choice in this case.

Another fan said the players would decide based on who has the hot hand that night.

Another fan thinks they would end up turning the ball over while deciding who takes the shot.

Dan Le Batard joined in on the fun and joked about it being Cameron Payne.

Kyrie was one of the league leaders in fourth-quarter scoring last season and has hit multiple clutch shots in his career. Maybe if it’s a one-bucket situation, Kyrie is the best bet. But the scoring arsenal of KD and Booker may lend more to diverse late-game situations. Either way, it’s a scary thought for defenses all across the NBA.

Can The Suns Actually Get Kyrie Irving?

The simple answer to this is no. The new CBA dictates a team cannot acquire a player in a sign-and-trade while being over the first apron of the luxury tax. The Suns have already zoomed past the second apron after acquiring Bradley Beal and would want to avoid being hard-capped to fill out their roster. Even if Ayton comes to Dallas in a hypothetical S&T, it will not be possible without the Suns shedding more salary.

The only other way Kyrie ends up in Phoenix is by agreeing to a veteran minimum and leaving over $200 million on the table. That is unlikely. The Suns’ meeting is most likely a leverage play, and Irving is using it to put pressure on the Mavericks after a lack of interest from actual cap space teams. Whether this results in a full max for Kyrie is something we’ll find out over the next few days.
