Joel Embiid recently raised a lot of eyebrows around the league with some remarks about the Philadelphia 76ers’ chances to win the NBA championship.

The Cameroonian-born player said that winning a championship isn’t everything and the Sixers have remained competitive for a long time despite not getting the title.

“Obviously, everybody is always basing everything on winning a championship,” Embiid said. “But that’s not all that matters. Obviously, you want to win a championship. But would you rather be in contention every year? Or would you [rather] be at the bottom and fighting to make the playoffs every single year?”

These words weren’t welcomed by a lot of people in the league, with fans going after the center, who recently revealed he’s not focused on the 2023 NBA MVP award. These comments and the fact that he avoids facing direct rivals for the award make a lot of people doubt Embiid’s MVP pedigree.

NBA Fans Slam Joel Embiid For His Comments On Sixers

Fans had something to say about his comments, blasting him for saying these words, which don’t match with a winning mentality.

One fan said he was ducking responsibilities.

Another one mentioned Kobe Bryant, claiming that it would’ve been crazy seeing Kobe saying something like that.

Some called out Embiid for having a losing mentality too.

He was compared to Damian Lillard, who has a similar mentality to Embiid.

Others simply bashed the player for making up excuses for his lack of success.

The Philadelphia 76ers have tried to win the championship since they landed both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. The point guard isn’t on the team anymore, and they look better with James Harden teaming up with Embiid.

It remains to be seen if they can get past the second round of the playoffs, which won’t be easy. The Sixers are hungry to win, and this is the perfect season to end their bad playoffs record.
