Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers keep trying to fight for important things this NBA season, always aiming at the championship.
However, Embiid recently made a shocking revelation about his team’s aspirations, saying that winning a title ‘isn’t all that matters.’
“Everybody is always basing everything on winning a championship. But that’s not all that matters. Obviously, you want to win a championship. But would you rather be in contention every year? Or would you [rather] be at the bottom and fighting to make the playoffs every single year?”
Talking with Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the big man says that he’s glad the Sixers have recorded four 50-win seasons in the past six years, which shows how good they’ve been.
However, not everybody is happy with this, considering that Embiid has made it clear the most important thing for him is winning a championship instead of individual awards.
Joel Embiid Keeps Fighting For 2023 MVP Award
On that note, the Cameroonian-born player is ready to start the final week of the 2022-23 NBA regular season, set to finish the season on a strong note to convince voters that he’s the rightful MVP award winner.
Nikola Jokic is the biggest competition Embiid has right now, and Giannis Antetokounmpo could also give them a run for their money. Joel has stated he’s not interested in the MVP as much as people think, and even blast those who criticize him for missing direct duels against Embiid.
This MVP race gets better by the day and perhaps this final week will move the needle for one of Jokic, Embiid and perhaps Giannis.
The Process will face Antetokounmpo and his Bucks this Sunday, trying to get a big win against a big rival to make a statement. It’s now or never for him, as the Sixers appear to be running out of time to win the championship.
