The King has finally been slain! LeBron James had not lost an All-Star game since the format was changed in 2018 and got rid of teams from each Conference in favor of a draft of all available players by the 2 leading vote-getters in each conference.
LeBron James has been captaining All-Star squads every year since 2018 and has faced Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Giannis Antetokounmpo as opponents. Despite beating all of them previously, Giannis finally ended the winning streak after Team Giannis emerged victorious in the 2023 All-Star Game, bringing LeBron’s record as captain to 5-1.
Fans reacted to the stellar game, which featured plenty of big moments and also had some less-than-ideal performances by some of the league’s biggest stars.

Worst All-Star game I’ve ever watched in my life.

Look I know the All Star game has always been just for fun and no defense involved but tonight was blatantly bad. At least since Kobe passed they have done a great job putting in some good effort to try and score 24 in the 4th but now the 24 rule is literally pointless…

If I were Bron, I’m making the @NBA run me 5 of them trophies. 5-1 as captain and you introduce a trophy the first year I take the L 😂

There was zero defense and people were still missing layups and dunks. This was the worst all star game I've ever seen.

The injuries that saw Giannis and LeBron both leave the game definitely affected the excitement from fans. However, Jayson Tatum brought the energy back with his incredible 55-point performance, setting a new All-Star record for points scored. Damian Lillard, Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, and many others also put on a show.
Did Injuries Ruin The 2023 All-Star Game?
The biggest talking point of this game will be all the stars that didn’t play as compared to the stars that did. Giannis left the game after the first basket, so he essentially didn’t play while LeBron hurt his hand and sat down after halftime. Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Zion Williamson were injured beforehand and couldn’t suit up for the game.
Players like Anthony Davis and Devin Booker couldn’t even qualify for the team due to injuries hurting their candidacy. Knowing that some of the best players in the NBA couldn’t even make it to the event or perform at a high level. Despite that, this event was incredibly entertaining, and the players that did participate tried to put on a show.
