NBA Fans Debate If They Would Rather Have 7 Rings And $54 Million Or Zero Rings And $300 Million

NBA fans discussed whether they would rather have 7 rings and $54 million dollars like Robert Horry or no rings and $300 million like James Harden.

NBA fans in general talk a lot about legacy. For players, for the people they idolize, achievements mean more than anything else they can do. Robert Horry was a role player, but he won seven NBA championships perfecting his role and becoming one of the greatest clutch players. He earned $54 million in his career.

James Harden is a former MVP, one of the greatest offensive players ever. But he has never won a ring despite making $300 million. Fans discussed which career they would rather have, given the choice.

Winning championships ensures a player’s name goes down in history. There are various ways to make money when one is already rich, but immortality in sports is rare. That’s why one fan said they would take the rings.

There is a more nuanced conversation to be had in terms of role. While Robert Horry won seven championships, he was a role player on those teams. None of those rings are remembered as his more than anyone else’s. And that is a significant factor to consider in this equation.

While sports fans do care a lot about legacy, very few things can as tangibly change life for the better as money can. $300 million is generational wealth, enough for your family to never have to work for a living again, and as one fan said, that’s why it’s the winning option every time.

The right answer for most NBA players, of course, lies in between. Everyone wants to win it all, but not at the expense of not making enough dough. One fan explained the compromise he’d rather settle for.

James Harden Can Still Win Championships

In this particular comparison, the one thing that makes a difference is that James Harden can still win championships. If he can get a move to the Clippers, for example, no one would bet against him winning it all once or twice with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

James Harden’s career has seen him become one of the best of his generation. And he has done so while earning individual accolades and $300 million. If a championship also comes his way, Harden will have achieved everything there is to in the NBA. He likely wouldn’t trade his career for a few more championships, either.
