LeBron James did everything he could to stop the Lakers from getting swept by the Nuggets, but it ultimately wasn’t enough. And he dropped a bombshell after the game, explaining that he is thinking about his basketball future and potential retirement.

The news is far from concrete and considering that he is still a very good player, it would seem a little abrupt. Additionally, he is yet to play with his son, Bronny, like he has said he wants to. Unsurprisingly fans had a lot to say about LeBron maybe calling it a career.

LeBron James was drafted in 2003 by the Cleveland Cavaliers and has been a superstar since his rookie season in the league. Fans have grown up watching him play, and at least one fan openly said they wouldn’t be able to handle their emotions if James retired.

LeBron James has been a mainstay at the business end of the league for most of his career. He has made 10 NBA Finals and won four championships. A lot of fans don’t remember a league without James in it, and as one fan said, it will never be the same again after he calls it quits.

LeBron James has made his desire to play with his son Bronny James plenty clear. And it seems fans do want to see it. One fan thinks there is no chance that LeBron should retire at this point.

While fans of LeBron James will miss him, he has loomed so large in his career that his retirement will also affect his haters. As one self-professed hater said, it would be heartbreaking.

LeBron James Is Still Playing At A High Enough Level To Keep Going

For a player in the GOAT conversation like LeBron James, losing in the Conference Finals has got to be demoralizing. He needs championships to add to his legacy, and his words after the sweep was completed may have been coming from an emotional place. In terms of statistics, LeBron is still playing at an incredibly high level. He averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game for the Lakers during the regular season while breaking the all-time scoring record.

Even in Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets, James had a 31-point half and finished with 40 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. His retirement will be a hugely momentous event whenever it occurs, but hopefully, that won’t be happening anytime soon. Neither his fans nor his haters would want to see him go out in this manner.
