The Charlotte Hornets are one of the worst teams in the league in the 2022-23 NBA season. That was evident in their most recent matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans.

With a recent loss against the Pelicans, the Hornets now have a 23-51 record and are currently the 14th seed in the Eastern Conference. Speaking of their matchup against the Pelicans, during the game, there was an instance where the Hornets’ bench was quite literally empty.

The image quickly went viral on the internet, and numerous NBA fans shared their thoughts on this hilarious picture.

Comments have been edited for clarification:

“They can’t enter into a game like that. Something must have happened during the game, lol,” a fan tweeted.

“Now, that’s elite tanking,” a fan applauded the Hornets’ efforts to tank.

“It’s incredible that a dude who won six chips is the owner of an absolute poverty franchise,” a fan showed sympathy to the Hornets’ owner, Michael Jordan.

“The tanking is real,” another fan tweeted.

“Teammates realized they sucked and left the arena,” a fan trolled the Hornets.

It is very rare to see a team’s bench completely empty in the middle of the game. Yes, the Hornets are one of the worst teams in the league, but even for them, it’s a new low. So one would wonder what was the reason behind this rare image.

Injuries were the reason behind the Hornets’ bench literally being empty in the middle of the game. So, on top of having an extremely poor season, the Hornets have also been bitten by the injury bug.

Michael Jordan Is Reportedly Looking To Sell The Charlotte Hornets

Michael Jordan bought the Charlotte Hornets for $180 million back in 2010. The NBA legend has been the majority owner of the teams for 13 years now, but the Hornets remain one of the worst teams in the league.

Keeping that in mind, no one was caught off-guard when it was reported that Jordan wants to sell his majority stake in the team.

Despite the Hornets not performing well under MJ’s ownership, he could still sell the team for over $1.77 billion. Not bad for a team that has made the playoffs just twice since Jordan became the owner of the team, right?
