Shams Charania has made a name for himself as the NBA’s most reliable insider, but little did the sporting world know that he had enough sources to pull off breaking updates for another sport, and that left fans stunned.
In addition to breaking developments in the NBA, The Athletic’s journalist also had updates on the 2023 NFL Draft, much to the amusement of fans. Below is a string of tweets Charania shared.
“The insider of insiders @RapSheet says Will Anderson Jr. is going to the Texans!”

Some were quick to notice that he got some of the picks wrong.

This was seconded by another who wrote: “The only reason Shams or Woj is able to get away with this shit in the NBA is because they got things right. I know this was the position Anderson was picked, but missing the trade is a big deal. You can’t be early and wrong.”

All said, Shams did stop tweeting about NFL, and while he may have got the information wrong, there’s no denying that he is one of the more credible faces in the NBA journalists’ circuit.
Shams Charania Reportedly Spends 17-18 Hours Per Day On His Phone
They say the pen is mightier than the sword, but it’s a tad different in Shams’ case. The insider’s phone is his biggest weapon, and he puts that to good use every day by breaking news even before major outlets even get a whiff of it. Except that he’s on his phone for reportedly 17-18 hours a day.
“Asked about his screen time, Charania answered that the typical amount is 17-18 hours per day — and that it climbs over 20 hours during frenetic periods of the NBA Draft and free agency. It makes his “heart sink” when he is on a flight where the Wi-Fi doesn’t work.”
“He mostly forgoes driving for ride-shares — his trips from the suburbs into Stadium’s offices adjoining the United Center are about 40 minutes each way, a couple times a week — lest he miss a scoop while behind the wheel. “I remember every story I’ve gotten, and I definitely remember every story I haven’t gotten,” he said, in an aside when we were discussing his heart pounding in the process of obtaining the Gobert scoop.”
Guess it isn’t easy being an insider. And an amazingly good one at that.
