The NBA has rescinded Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 10th rebound against the Washington Wizards on Sunday night, and that has had fans lauding the league.
Per NBA insider Zach Lowe’s tweet: “The league has rescinded Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 10th rebound last night–and thus his triple-double, sources tell ESPN. League rules say that for a field-goal attempt to count as official, the player has to shoot “with intent to score a field goal” — i.e. to make the shot.”

The manner in which he attained his fourth triple-double of the season was hilarious after the Milwaukee Bucks star purposely missed a lay-up and notched his 10th rebound to get the triple-double.
If this had fans share their two cents, then the recent development left them in a tizzy. Please note that the comments have been edited for the purpose of clarification:

One of the fans believed it was a win for the league: “NBA not rewarding shameless stat padding, finally they did something good.”

This was seconded by another fan who believed a point should be earned.
Good.
Stat padding is stupid. Earn it. https://t.co/1Rc4Xht5Nx

“Good. Giannis should’ve known better,” a tweet read.

“I’m not understanding what rule says that it’s not a genuine rebound….unless it’s one I don’t know. It’s a clear stat pad but it’s a clear rebound lol,” a fan still defended Antetokounmpo.

Speaking after the game, the forward explained his maneuver: “I was thinking about scoring the ball, but I feel like in those situations it’s best to kind of keep the ball,” he said. “But yeah, I just try to play the game smart and kind of stole one.”
However, it looks like the league didn’t find the move funny. In what comes as related news, Atlanta Hawks guard Bob Sura had his own triple-double taken back in 2004 after he rebounded off an intentionally missed shot.
Brian Windhorst Explains Why Giannis Antetokounmpo Deserves MVP
While he may have clowned his way on the court to his triple-double that eventually didn’t count, Giannis Antetokounmpo can be a force on the hardwood on any given day.
He’s got the numbers to show. The forward is currently averaging 31.3 PPG, 12.0 RPG, and 5.4 APG this season and while at it has shepherded the Bucks to impressive wins. And that had NBA insider Brian Windhorst backing him for MVP.
“This guy does so much for his team at both ends of the court…he had my vote two weeks ago, he’s got my vote today…The Celtics haven’t done anything but win,” Windhorst said. “The Celtics have been in the first place since October, and they’re still playing great. And they just walked down by the Bucks because Giannis is driving that train.”
The Bucks have been looked at as the team to beat this season, and they are surely coasting their way to the postseason. It remains to be seen if Antetokounmpo can help them cross the finish line.
