Allen Iverson’s Honest Take On Crossing Michael Jordan: “All I Could Think About Is I Had No Fear. We Was At War. I Looked At Him As Anybody Else Being In Front Of Me.”

2 Min Read

Allen Iverson was one of the most talented and entertaining players, making flashy plays that delighted fans every other night. He didn’t care about who was in front of him, not even his idol, Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.

The Answer was fearless and he made that clear from the very beginning of his NBA career. During his rookie season, a young Iverson went against Black Jesus, who tried to get under his skin as soon as they met. However, AI wasn’t having any of that and pulled off one of the best memorable moves of his career on the 6x NBA champion.

At some point, Iverson played some ISO-ball against Jordan, crossing over No. 23 in a move that everyone but Jordan enjoyed. Recently, the 2001 NBA MVP talked about that move, explaining what went through his mind when he decided to lose Jordan with that move.

“All I could think about is I had no fear,” Iverson told Shaun Powell of NBA.com. “I feared so many other things off the court, but nothing on the court. (That crossover) was indicative of how I felt as far as being fearless on the court. We was at war. I looked at him as anybody else being in front of me. Coming into the league, I knew if I had the opportunity of trying my move that I was going to do it, and not be fearful of it.”

That play is one of the most famous in AI’s career. He went against his biggest idol and scored on him when he just started his tenure in the league. Even to this day, people talk about that play and Allen won’t stop talking about it, either. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see him and Jordan going against each other on more occasions, but the memories they left us are great.
