The hype around Caitlin Clark is so big that her first playoff game was a hot ticket, with the lowest price on platform TickPick showing $133. To put that into context, this would be more than the cheapest tickets at all four WNBA Finals games from last season, which came in at about $131 total.
Clark has been instrumental in the rising popularity of the WNBA. Coming off of two incredible, sport-defining NCAA tournaments in 2023 and 2024, not to mention her breaking the NCAA all-time scoring record, Clark entered the WNBA Draft pool and was the first overall pick in this year’s draft, selected by the Indiana Fever.
She immediately settled into a groove in the league, establishing herself among the best players in the entire league, despite being a rookie. She had an incredible season, and attracted a lot of eyeballs to the league, helping the WNBA grow to heights unforeseen in the past.
A big draw for the WNBA this season was the continued rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Reese and Clark’s rivalry began at the 2023 NCAA tournament, when Reese and LSU defeated Clark and Iowa State, along with Reese mocking Clark by doing the ‘You can’t see me’ gesture, something Clark had made her signature during the tournament.
And now that both players are in the NBA, the rivalry has only gotten more intense. Every game between Reese’s Chicago Sky and Clark’s Indiana Fever became appointment viewing, drawing some of the largest gates and television viewership figures in the history of the WNBA.
In fact, the final showdown between Clark and Reese became the most expensive WNBA game of all time, as the average ticket price was well over $300, unheard of in the WNBA in years prior.
Caitlin Clark Becomes Unanimous Rookie Of The Year
Caitlin Clark was named the unanimous Rookie of the Year yesterday, allowing her to join the likes of her Fever teammate Aliyah Boston among the few in history who have won the award unanimously. While many felt that the race for Rookie of the Year was intense, the voters clearly felt otherwise.
There were a lot of people who felt that Angel Reese should have won the WNBA Rookie of the Year, thanks to her breaking the WNBA all-time record for rebounds in a season. Unfortunately, due to her injury, she wasn’t able to build on her lead, reigning MVP A’ja Wilson broke her record, and even took a slight dig at her in the process.
When comparing the stats between the two, Clark was the clear runaway for the Rookie of the Year, as she led Reese in 10 of the 11 total statistical categories. This isn’t to take away from Reese at all, who had a fantastic season with the Sky prior to her season-ending injury.
Clark is a figure many expect to dominate the WNBA for years to come. After she left her mark on the collegiate game, Clark could very well establish herself as the greatest to ever do it in the WNBA when all is said and done.
