As LeBron James continues to add to his historic career by playing at a level, we have never seen before at the age of 38 and in his 20th season, many have started reckoning that LeBron’s incredible longevity might make him the GOAT. However, LBJ still hasn’t recreated Michael Jordan’s achievements despite being in the league for so long.

They are both the greatest depending on who you ask, and Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers had the perfect thing to say about how we should look at the two greats. LeBron’s overall career is easily the most impressive in NBA history, given his incredibly consistent performances for 20 seasons, while MJ is still the single-greatest player for his achievements over a shorter span.

James doesn’t match up to Jordan when it comes to accolades, and that’s completely fine, given the generational differences and team differences that come across eras. However, we have to look at the cold stats on the paper, and it’s easy to see LBJ is yet to match up to the 6 titles and Finals MVPs, along with MJ winning DPOY and 10 scoring titles in his career.

Will The GOAT Debate Ever Have A Conclusion?

Any future players that want to be considered in this debate have to be absolutely dominant on multiple championship-winning squads to enter this conversation. If they achieve at a Michael Jordan-esque level, they’ll be compared to MJ. If they can’t win a lot in the short term but dominate for 20 years, they’ll be compared to LeBron James

The debate between MJ and LeBron will always remain a debate, even if LeBron wins 2 titles at this age, because the on-court evidence will still give MJ fans their argument. The debate ends when someone wins as much as MJ did while also being able to sustain that excellence over 20 years.
